Winthrop-University Hospital Selects Allscripts to Automate Clinical Records in Emergency Department and Connect to Ambulatory Physician Practices

Long Island Hospital to Implement Electronic Health Record and Emergency Department Information System for Over 150 Physicians

CHICAGO and MINEOLA, N.Y. (February 21, 2007) –

Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that Winthrop-University Hospital (Winthrop) has selected the HealthMatics(R) ED Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) to automate patient care processes in its Emergency Department and the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record (EHR) for its hospital-based physician practices.

The $2 million agreement marks the first joint sale of HealthMatics ED and TouchWorks. By connecting clinical records from Winthrop’s Emergency Department with the Electronic Health Record for 152 physicians in the hospital’s owned practices, the agreement bridges an information gap that is common in hospitals across the country.

“Winthrop-University Hospital is proud to join with Allscripts as we continue to improve physician access to vital health information,” said John F. Collins, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Winthrop, a 591-bed Long Island medical center and regional trauma center that is the primary teaching affiliate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine. “This is a dramatic step towards our vision of an integrated clinical information system that enables our physicians to access inpatient and outpatient medical information to make sound, real-time clinical decisions and develop individualized plans of care.”

HealthMatics ED (http://www.allscripts.com/healthmaticsed) electronically streamlines processes for the entire Emergency Department, including tracking, triage, nurse and physician charting, disposition and reporting. The Allscripts system will integrate with Winthrop’s existing Siemens CPOE system. The TouchWorks Electronic Health Record (http://www.allscripts.com/touchworks) provides Winthrop’s physicians instant access to patient information when and where they need it — at the hospital, in their practices, or while on-call at home. TouchWorks automates and improves the safety of everyday clinical tasks including prescribing and refilling medications, ordering and reviewing tests, and documenting patient care.

“Allscripts was the only vendor with proven state-of-the-art EHR and ED solutions,” said Dr. Steven Fishbane, Chairman of Winthrop’s Clinical Information Systems Executive Steering Committee. “TouchWorks was selected nearly unanimously by the 75 physicians who spent two days reviewing the major vendor offerings, finding it to be the most user-friendly and the most sophisticated. HealthMatics ED was the clear choice because it’s so intuitive and doesn’t make you change the way you practice medicine.”

Winthrop hopes eventually to offer the Electronic Health Record to all of its more than 1,500 affiliated physicians in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens Counties on Long Island, according to Collins.

“We are proud to partner with Winthrop-University Hospital to solve an age-old problem for physicians by connecting information from the Emergency Department to the ambulatory Electronic Health Record,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “Connectivity between physicians inside and outside the four walls of the hospital not only is central to our vision of a connected healthcare system but we believe will enable Winthrop to further improve the quality of patient care, reduce physician rework, and therefore cut costs.”

Winthrop will integrate TouchWorks with Centricity Business (formerly IDX(R) Flowcast(R)), the practice management system used by its owned practices. Allscripts and IDX, now a part of GE Healthcare, share a strategic relationship that directly links clinical and financial information systems to support process redesign and operational enhancements.
