HUNTSVILLE, Ala. & CHICAGO (January 27, 2006) –

Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) will implement the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record at its Huntsville Regional Medical Campus. Using a modular implementation approach, the deployment will initially include 30 faculty members, 36 residents and 60 medical students.

“The physicians at the Huntsville Regional Medical Campus are eager to automate their daily routine, but require a solution which is easy to use,” said Scott Bence, Assistant Dean of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Huntsville campus. “Allscripts modular approach enables us to implement quickly, while delivering a user-friendly solution to our physicians to ensure rapid utilization. Ultimately, this will allow UAB to teach state-of-the-art healthcare delivery to America’s future physicians.”

The Accrediting Council for Graduation Medical Education (ACGME) and the Residency Review Committee for Family Practice has been encouraging medical schools to include health information technology in physician training programs. With the adoption of TouchWorks, UAB physicians in Huntsville will gain the necessary skills to leverage technology throughout their professional careers.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham ranks among the nation’s top universities in funding from the National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. News and World Report consistently rates UAB among ‘One of America’s Top Medical Schools’.

“As a nationally recognized leader, UAB saw the opportunity to take its regional campus faculty and physicians in training to the next level of healthcare delivery,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “UAB is delivering on their mission of being one of America’s premier teaching, research and healthcare institutions.”

UAB will integrate TouchWorks with its existing IDX(R) Groupcast(TM) practice management solution from IDX Systems Corporation. Allscripts and IDX, now apart of GE Healthcare, share a strategic relationship that will directly link clinical and financial information to support operational improvements at UAB.
