Riverside Physician Network Selects Allscripts Electronic Health Record

Independent Practice Association Enables California Physicians to Adopt EHR Technology for Patient Safety and Efficiency

CHICAGO & RIVERSIDE, Calif. (August 18, 2006) –

Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that Riverside Physician Network (RPN) has selected the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record (EHR) to automate and connect a network of nearly 200 physicians across dozens of locations in the Riverside and Moreno Valley area.

Riverside Physician Network is a physician-owned Independent Practice Association (IPA) of 62 primary care physicians and 129 specialists. The group will implement the TouchWorks Electronic Health Record http://www.allscripts.com/prdTWEMR.aspx initially for 50 physicians and hopes to expand the project to other IPA physicians.

“Riverside Physician Network is committed to providing our patients with high quality, cost effective healthcare, and we feel the Electronic Health Record from Allscripts will help us deliver on that promise,” said Paul Snowden, Chief Financial Officer of RPN and Executive Director of Riverside EHR, a fully-owned subsidiary formed by the IPA to implement and promote the new system to its members. “Many RPN physicians, who are mostly in small practices, have been eager to switch to an EHR but have found themselves facing significant financial and information technology hurdles. Our partnership with Allscripts essentially removes these barriers, allowing our physicians to focus on running their practices, and for our patients, it’s a clear win.”

The Allscripts Electronic Health Record delivers RPN’s physicians instant access to patient records at the point of care, whether at the hospital or remotely, and provides a seamless connection to their practice’s other administrative and clinical systems. The web-based TouchWorks solution also automates many daily clinical tasks, such as prescribing medications and documenting clinical encounters, and connects physicians electronically to laboratories, insurers and all other key healthcare stakeholders.

After a year-long review of Electronic Health Record vendors, RPN selected Allscripts for its web-based technology, which can be rolled out quickly and hosted centrally by the IPA, freeing member physicians from the need to purchase expensive new hardware. “That, combined with Allscripts strong reputation and successful track record with other IPA’s, made them our clear choice,” said Snowden.

The Allscripts Electronic Health Record will interface with the numerous practice management systems used by RPN’s physicians, directly linking their clinical and financial information systems to support operational efficiency.

“We are excited to enable the physicians of the Riverside Physician Network to deliver enhanced patient care,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “The combination of our web-based technology and the IPA model of care means that Riverside physicians can now experience the benefits of an Electronic Health Record in a very cost effective manner. We think this model will become the standard for physicians in small medical groups everywhere who want to deliver the best possible patient care through state-of-the-art information technology.”
