CHICAGO and FLORENCE, S.C (February 19, 2009) –
Allscripts announced today that Pee Dee Cardiology Associates has selected Allscripts Professional Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management (PM) for its 16 clinicians in the Pee Dee River region of South Carolina. The agreement continues Pee Dee’s longstanding partnership with Allscripts in providing technology solutions for their physicians.

Pee Dee Cardiology’s 13 physicians and 3 mid-level providers are expert in the treatment, diagnosis, management and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Pee Dee had been a Misys Practice Management user since 1987. After Allscripts merged with Misys Healthcare late last year, the physicians of Pee Dee Cardiology decided to upgrade to Allscripts Professional EHR and PM.
“AllscriptsMisys has been a great partner with us for years, and the merger has expanded their product offering, feature functions, and client base throughout the Carolinas and the nation,” said Alan Blaker, MD, Managing Partner of Pee Dee Cardiology Associates. “By implementing the Allscripts electronic health record and practice management solution, we’re continuing our focus on reinvesting in technology that delivers the highest quality care to our patients in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.”
Chief Operating Officer Jerry Vereen said Pee Dee Cardiology’s physicians selected Allscripts for its user-friendly interface and its ability to seamlessly integrate the clinical and business aspects of the practice. Also key to the selection was the recognition, during the current economic downturn, that Allscripts will help the practice participate in financial incentive programs managed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS provides thousands of dollars per year in incentives for physicians who prescribe electronically, who use an Electronic Health Record certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT), and who can demonstrate that the EHR has improved the health of their patients.
“A big part of our decision to implement Allscripts is its proven ability to help practices provide high quality evidence-based care, to communicate more effectively, and to qualify for government incentive programs like those available today from CMS,” said Vereen.
To quickly begin e-prescribing, Pee Dee Cardiology will immediately implement Allscripts ePrescribe, the free stand-alone, Web-based version of the company’s market-leading electronic prescribing technology. Once the Electronic Health Record is fully implemented, Allscripts will transfer all patient data from Allscripts ePrescribe into the EHR and Pee Dee physicians will begin using the EHR’s integrated e-prescribing module, which uses the same engine.
“Pee Dee Cardiology is a leading example of the thousands of small and medium-sized physician groups who have used our legacy Misys practice management system for many years and now see the opportunity to take their practices to the next level with our market-leading electronic health record,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “Their physicians also recognize the new federal stimulus package will provide an offset to the cost of the electronic health record and we’re proud to say that no one else is better at helping them to deliver on that promise than Allscripts.”
Allscripts Professional Electronic Health Record and Practice Management for small and medium-sized physician practices are easy-to-deploy, physician-centric solutions that improve the delivery of safe, cost-effective, high-quality care. The Electronic Health Record provides caregivers instant and secure access to the complete patient record anytime and anywhere, while automating everyday clinical tasks and connecting physicians to pharmacies, laboratories and other healthcare stakeholders. The Practice Management solution improves the productivity of administrative staff, simplifies patient record keeping, streamlines billing and improves cash flow, with the industry’s most user-friendly interface and extensible design. Built on a single intelligent platform, the Allscripts solutions can be implemented separately or together to help the clinical and administrative sides of a practice work hand-in-hand for better communication, improved accuracy and safety.
