Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that OSF Healthcare System has selected the HealthMatics(R) ED Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) to automate emergency operations and improve access to patient information for more than 200,000 annual patient visits in five of the organization’s seven hospitals and three urgent care clinics.

OSF HealthCare is a multi-state corporation providing state-of-the-art, compassionate care to more than 2.5 million people in the communities it serves in Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin. HealthMatics ED (http://www.allscripts.com/edis) will streamline processes for the organization’s Emergency Departments, including patient tracking and triage, nurse and physician charting, reporting and disposition.
“OSF HealthCare is committed to further enhancing the quality and safety of patient care provided in our Emergency Departments, and Allscripts will help us achieve both goals,” said Robert White, MD, Chief Medical Officer for Management Information Systems at OSF HealthCare. “We believe the electronic format of the EDIS ultimately is the best way to deliver critical patient information to our clinicians in an efficient and standardized manner.”
Physicians, nurses and other Emergency Department staff appreciate HealthMatics ED’s single-screen view of all ED activity with comprehensive patient tracking, electronic records, real-time views of all lab orders and test results, and patient-specific decision support information to enhance safety. Other system features include remote chart access for community caregivers and hospital staff, so they can securely access an ED patient’s chart via the Web without logging into the HealthMatics ED solution.
OSF Healthcare System conducted a comprehensive analysis of EDIS vendors and selected HealthMatics ED for its industry-leading connectivity, comprehensive functionality, ease of customization, and proven success at the nation’s leading hospitals, where the Allscripts solution handles millions of Emergency Department visits each year.
“Our clinicians were very clear that Allscripts has the all information they need to improve the delivery of care in the ED,” said Dave Vermillion, MIS Project Manager for OSF HealthCare. “They found HealthMatics to be the easiest EDIS to use and the best fit for our existing inpatient information systems.”
OSF Healthcare System will deploy HealthMatics ED initially in OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL; OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, IL; OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, IL; OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL; OSF Saint James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac, IL; and in three OSF PromptCare clinics in Peoria and Morton, IL. Vermillion indicated that the EDIS will eventually be deployed in two additional Emergency Departments within the OSF Healthcare System.
“Physicians and caregivers inside the Emergency Department need instant access to the right information at the right time. The very definition of emergency speaks to speed, quick access, and the ability to document and share information quickly – and Allscripts delivers,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “We’re proud that OSF HealthCare has chosen Allscripts to help fulfill their mission of providing comprehensive, integrated, quality health care to their millions of patients, especially when it comes to the most critical moments.”
