Netsmart Technologies Acquires Pharmacy Management Software Company

Acquisition of Crown Software Brings Netsmart a Complete Clinical Pharmacy Management Solution with Closed Loop Medication Capabilities for Behavioral and Public Health

Great River, NY (July 15, 2009) – Netsmart Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of software and services for health and human services organizations, today announced the acquisition of Crown Software, Inc., a pharmacy management software company based in Killeen, Texas. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The acquisition of Crown provides Netsmart with a pharmacy management software solution, RxConnect, that will be integrated with Netsmart’s behavioral and public health enterprise software products or used as a stand-alone pharmacy solution and integrated with an existing medication management system.

RxConnect provides pharmacists software with a user-friendly interface to safely and effectively manage medications; facility administrators with effective pharmacy management and tracking tools; and information technology staff with easy-to-manage stand-alone or integrated software.

“This acquisition addresses a need by both a segment of our current customer base and future customers for closed loop medication and integration,” said James L. Conway, chief executive officer, Netsmart Technologies. “Our customers who operate pharmacies will be able to use RxConnect to integrate pharmacy management with their electronic health record (EHR), computerized physician order entry (CPOE), electronic medication administration records (eMAR) and electronic medical record (EMR) capabilities provided by their Netsmart enterprise software. Significantly, this integrated solution can help our customers meet the ‘meaningful use’ requirements for funding eligibility under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), which include medication management and electronic prescribing requirements.”

As one example, Netsmart Avatar customers will be able to use RxConnect software in conjunction with their Avatar software to create a medication order via Avatar Order Entry and send it to the pharmacy for processing by RxConnect, with the information then integrated into Avatar eMAR for medication administration.

In addition to being integrated with Netsmart’s products for behavioral and public health, the software will continue to be sold to primary care facilities and small hospital pharmacies under the brand RxLink. Customer support will continue uninterrupted for RxLink’s more than 134 current customer sites.

The pharmacy management software solution was developed by Crown Software founder and CEO Bill King, who is a Registered Pharmacist. King will join Netsmart and continued to be involved in ongoing development of the product.

“The acquisition by Netsmart, a large, healthcare-focused technology company, provides the resources needed to continue to grow the software’s scope and capabilities,” said King.
