meridianEMR Completes Surescripts Certification

meridianEMR Now Connects Physicians with Pharmacies and Payers Across the Country for E-Prescribing

Livingston, NJ (July 14, 2009) –

meridianEMR, a leading provider of electronic medical records systems, electronic prescribing and advanced healthcare analytics, announced today it has completed certification with Surescripts on June 24th, 2009.

meridianEMR users will now be able to electronically and securely exchange prescription information directly with, pharmacies and payers in communities throughout all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

“We’re pleased ro receive this important certification and to extend the capabilities our our mEMRxChange platform,” said Michael Custode, President of meridianEMR, Inc. “The electronic prescribing capabilities have been seemlessly integrated into our solution without the need for any third-party e-prescribing solutions, resulting in faster implementations and return on investment.”

The connection to Surescripts allows physicians who e-prescribe using the meridianEMR application and mEMRxChange network to access valuable real-time pharmacy and payor information before prescriptions are written, thereby reducing errors and increasing physician effectiveness. Before a prescriber prepares an e-prescription, eligibility and formulary information will be provided through the meridianEMR application. With patient consent, prescription history can also be provided.

Additionally, the connection to Surescripts also allows for electronic routing of prescription refill requests, which physicians can receive via their office computer instead of their fax machine. Refill authorizations, or denials, can then be electronically communicated back to the pharmacy with just a few clicks, thereby eliminating many of the faxes and phone calls associated with the traditional refeill process. New prescriptions can also be routed directly to pharmacy computers before a patient ever leaves their physician’s office.

The Institure of Medicine (IOM) has reported that more than 1.5 million Americans are injured every year by medication errors and recommends that all prescriptions be written and received electronically by the year 2010.

“Electronic prescribing makes everyone’s lives a lot easier and significantly reduces all the unnecessary paperwork and back-and-forth that typically goes on between doctors and patients when it comes to the prescription and renewal process,” said H.S. Jackson, M.D., Director of Template Development, meridianEMR, Inc. “In short patient safety will be enhanced by the technological capabilities that eliminate prescription errors and reduce druge interaction risk”.
