Frankford Hospitals Selects Canopy Care Management Solution From Allscripts

Philadelphia-Area Hospital System Automates Patient Care and Discharge Process. Agreement Follows Purchase of Allscripts Electronic Health Record for Community Physicians

CHICAGO and PHILADELPHIA, (November 07, 2007) –

Allscripts, the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that Frankford Hospitals has selected the Canopy(R) care management solution from Allscripts to help manage and coordinate care for their patients. The agreement with Frankford Hospitals follows an Aug. 2 announcement that Frankford Health Care System selected Allscripts Electronic Health Record and Practice Management for 100 non-employed physicians in Frankford’s communities.

Part of the Jefferson Health System, Frankford Hospitals operates three hospital campuses in the Philadelphia area with 477 total beds — Frankford Hospital/Frankford, Frankford Hospital/Torresdale, and Frankford Hospital/Bucks County — as well as three outpatient care sites. All of the medical center facilities will now use Canopy to streamline their care management workflow, manage insurance claims, and to monitor each patient’s length of stay and health status.

“Allscripts will help us ensure that our patients continue to receive great care from the moment they are admitted to the hospital until after they are discharged,” said Roy A. Powell, President and Chief Executive Officer, Frankford Hospitals. “By improving the case management process, Canopy will help us to deliver on our core mission — providing superior patient care at lower cost.”

Canopy streamlines and automates utilization, case, discharge and quality management processes while generating an immediate return on investment by improving length of stay and revenue recovery. A web-based, Application Service Provider (ASP) solution, Canopy can be deployed quickly and efficiently with minimal IT support. Canopy Connect provides seamless, secure online communications with payers, physicians and others, enabling hospitals to quickly and easily communicate care management information such as clinical reviews and post-acute placement requests. The system also enables case management staff to electronically “task” ancillary services, such as contracted home health care agencies, to more efficiently coordinate the discharge of patients.

“We chose Canopy because it makes it easy for clinical staff to focus on the patient while managing their care across the continuum,” said Jo Ann McGettigan, Director of Care Management at Frankford Hospitals. “Without having to rely on paper notes and charts, this will make it much easier for us to communicate critical information like clinical reviews, post-acute placement requests and physician referrals. And it will let us electronically pass along tasks and information as patients move throughout the system, which will be a huge time saver plus a safer process for patients.”

McGettigan also expects Canopy will deliver significant financial returns by accelerating payment of insurance claims and reducing the average length of time patients stay in the hospitals. Studies indicate that when hospitals fail to closely monitor patient care, they tend to keep patients longer than necessary. That cuts into revenue for the hospital and potentially hinders the patient’s recovery.

“We are proud that Frankford Hospitals has selected Allscripts to provide accurate, real-time information in helping to deliver high quality care while more effectively managing costs,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “Following Frankford Health Care System’s selection of our electronic health record and practice management system, this agreement highlights the interoperability of our suite of products as well as our commitment, working closely with Frankford, to provide a seamless, interconnected healthcare experience for patients that also enhances the quality of patient care.”

Frankford Hospitals will connect Canopy with its other information systems to provide a real-time feed of the essential patient information needed for the care management process.
