Coordinated Health Selects Allscripts Electronic Health Record and Practice Management to Improve Coordination of Patient Care

Pennsylvania Sports Medicine Provider Times Implementation to Take Advantage of Government EHR Subsidies

CHICAGO and ALLENTOWN, Pa (May 21, 2009) –

Allscripts announced today that Coordinated Health, the premier provider of sports and musculoskeletal medicine in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, has selected the Allscripts Enterprise(TM) Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management (PM) solutions to connect and automate its 50 physicians and 50 mid-level providers and physical therapists across eight locations.

Coordinated Health decided that the time was right to implement an Electronic Health Record given the significant new financial incentives that will soon be available under the health IT provisions (HITECH) of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). The ARRA provides between $44,000 and $64,000 in incentives for physicians who demonstrate meaningful use of an Electronic Health Record. Coordinated Health also will replace its legacy Misys Vision(R) practice management system with Allscripts PM.

“Now is clearly the right time and Allscripts is the right company as the market leader for electronic health records,” explained Emil DiIorio, M.D., founder and Chief Executive Officer of Coordinated Health. “Their system surpassed every other system we looked at in terms of its capabilities, the ease of use, and its connectivity with labs, pharmacies and other stakeholders. The information sharing that Allscripts can deliver creates a safer, higher quality environment for patient care.”

The integrated Allscripts solutions also will help Coordinated Health ensure a smooth transition for patients as they move between care settings. The group currently operates a Surgical Specialty Hospital in Bethlehem that combines outpatient facilities with 20 inpatient rooms for patients who require extensive surgery. A second Surgical Specialty Hospital with 22 inpatient rooms will be opening in Allentown in July 2009. Coordinated Health also operates physician offices specializing in arthritis and osteoporosis care, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, spine care, and joint care, as well as rehabilitation and imaging centers.

“Coordinated Health has again demonstrated their leadership among the Greater Lehigh Valley medical groups by responding quickly to President Obama’s call for the adoption of electronic health records to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care in the United States,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “Like a number of other leading Pennsylvania physician groups, they chose Allscripts based on our strong focus on providing physicians with innovative solutions that are extremely powerful yet easy to use.”

John Fistner, Chief Financial Officer of Coordinated Health, commented, “In addition to taking advantage of the federal incentives, we felt we could create significant practice efficiencies and position ourselves as a provider of management services for smaller practices in the region by hosting Allscripts for them. Being on the same system with those practices would also help us improve the coordination of care between referring physicians and our specialists, which in turn will improve the quality of care for our patients.”

The Allscripts Electronic Health Record delivers access to patient information whenever and wherever caregivers need it, which will be an advantage to Coordinated Health providers as they travel between their offices, hospitals, and home. The system automates the physician workflow, including such daily tasks as prescribing and refilling medications, ordering tests and viewing results, and documenting patient encounters. The EHR facilitates use by physicians in any specialty, adapting to their needs. It connects easily to a variety of medical devices and can be interfaced with in-house or outside labs.

The Allscripts Practice Management solution is fully integrated with the Electronic Health Record and features sophisticated scheduling and revenue cycle management tools that boost the productivity and the revenues of physician practices. Among its advanced features are rule-based appointment scheduling, recurring appointment features, referral management, eligibility indicators, a multiple-document interface, and drill-down reporting.
