Community Care Physicians Selects Allscripts Practice Management System for 190 Physicians in New York Capitol Region

Agreement Creates Seamless Connection to Allscripts Electronic Health Record and adds Allscripts Clinical Quality Solution to Automate Quality Reporting for ‘Pay For Performance’ Programs

CHICAGO and ALBANY, N.Y. (December 15, 2008) –

Allscripts announced today that Community Care Physicians, the Albany region’s largest physician-directed multispecialty group practice, has selected Allscripts Practice Management to automate billing, scheduling and other back-office functions for their 190 physicians.

The agreement follows Community Care Physicians’ implementation of the Allscripts Enterprise(TM) (formerly TouchWorks) Electronic Health Record, providing one fully integrated information solution for the physician-run organization. In addition to the practice management solution, the group will implement the Allscripts Clinical Quality Solution (CQS), which automates the quality reporting requirements of “pay-for-performance” programs and provides additional real-time clinical decision support information to improve the quality of patient care.

“Community Care Physicians is committed to providing quality patient care in the most effective and efficient manner possible, and the Allscripts practice management solution makes it easier for us to deliver on that promise,” said Shirish Parikh, MD, MBA, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Community Care Physicians. The group operates 35 offices located across Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady counties. “This agreement completes our vision of coupling world-class clinical care with the best technology available to create a unified electronic platform that allows us to deliver care in an innovative and meaningful way,” he said.

The Allscripts practice management solution combines sophisticated scheduling and revenue cycle management tools to help physician practices become more productive while improving service to patients. Important features include advanced billing and reconciliation, referral and eligibility indicators, and automated patient appointment reminders.

Barbara Morris, MD, Chief Medical Officer and physician sponsor of the Electronic Health Record, said the Allscripts practice management solution not only improves integration between clinical and financial operations but allows Community Care Physicians to replace its previous practice management system, which Morris said was “not user friendly.” The new CQS functionality will make it easier for the group to monitor the health of its patients and qualify for pay-for-performance bonuses by extracting quality measures from the Electronic Health Record, Practice Management system, or outside laboratories, she said.

Pay-for-performance programs aim to lower the overall cost of healthcare by providing financial bonuses to physicians who deliver high quality care.

“We’re building a single, integrated workflow between the clinical and administrative sides of our medical group and clinics, and we chose Allscripts based on our success with the electronic health record, and our faith in the partnership,” said Dr. Morris. “Allscripts is a company that really listens to the client and encourages you to be a part of its forward strategy. They’re also a company that’s going to be there for us over the long haul, unlike many of the companies that have come and gone in this industry.”

Allscripts Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman commented, “Community Care Physicians’ decision to add Allscripts practice management reflects well on the product’s functionality but is also the result of the strong relationship we’ve built in our deployment of the electronic health record. We look forward to expanding our partnership as we continue to deploy innovations like our new Clinical Quality Solution which not only automates reporting but provides physicians with real time information that allows them to identify opportunities in their patient base to improve care, thereby qualifying for higher pay-for-performance and pay-for-quality bonuses. As we move to more comparative effectiveness measures to evaluate care, CCP will be ahead of most practices with better information and better care for their patients.”
