Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, announced today that CardioVascular Associates – one of the largest and most respected cardiology groups in the Southeastern U.S. – will deploy the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record. The Allscripts solution will connect the physician group’s 38 providers across eight locations, enabling the automation of everyday clinical tasks and more aggressive tracking and management of chronic heart disease.

CardioVascular Associates required a solution that would leverage existing information to control costs, generate income and improve practice efficiency. With its powerful analytical tools, the TouchWorks Electronic Health Record (http://www.allscripts.com/prdTWEMR.aspx) drives clinical excellence by managing pay-for-performance initiatives, measuring key performance indicators, supporting clinical trials, and providing patient population management. CardioVascular Associates’ physicians will have instant access to clinical information across the physician network with alerts to indicate when key disease management indicators fall out of range, plus tools to review the details of clinical measures such as care planning statistics, health maintenance and provider productivity.

CardioVascular Associates began assessing Electronic Health Records in 1999 but wanted to wait until the technology had clearly matured, said Cockrell. “Now we’re finally convinced that the Electronic Health Record has arrived – and that Allscripts is clearly the safe choice for cardiology groups,” said Cockrell. “They’re an established company that has invested significant resources into their products to make sure they remain on the cutting edge.”

CardioVascular Associates will integrate TouchWorks with their existing Centricity Business (formerly IDX(R) Groupcast(TM)) revenue cycle management system. Allscripts and IDX, now a part of GE Healthcare, share a strategic relationship that directly links clinical and financial information systems to support process redesign and operational enhancements.
