From the floor of the 2006 HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Annual Conference and Exhibition, Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, announced today that the Company has been selected to participate in the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology’s (CCHIT) Pilot Study, designed to gauge the testability of CCHIT’s certification criteria for the functionality, interoperability and security of ambulatory electronic health records (EHR) and to demonstrate the effectiveness of its process.
CCHIT’s goal is to accelerate the adoption of robust, interoperable healthcare information technology throughout the United States by creating an efficient, credible, sustainable mechanism for the certification of healthcare IT products. Under its contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), CCHIT is required to conduct and report back results of the Pilot Study.
“We are pleased to have been selected by the Certification Commission to participate and provide our assistance and expertise in order to help advance the certification process,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “Allscripts has made a significant commitment to take a leadership role in many of the major national initiatives that are underway in order to help accelerate the use of electronic health records.”
