SALT LAKE CITY (July 16, 2008) –
As part of the transition, AdvancedMD began proactively educating and training their extensive network of over 8,500 providers across all 50 states more than two years ago. Offering automatic file updates, external educational material, claim flow monitoring and non-compliant claim identification, AdvancedMD worked to assist its clients with the changeover, helping each to feel prepared for the new requirement used now exclusively for electronic healthcare claims.
“All over the country, physicians are having real trouble getting their claims paid because of the recent NPI issues,” said Ken Meyers, AdvancedMD’s Vice President of Operations. “That’s a real interruption to cash flow and health of the practice. Because AdvancedMD is a true Software as a Service company (SaaS), we were able to quickly provide the enhancements and changes to our application necessary to minimize the impact to our end users.”
Linda Ramsey, Baylor Transplant Services Supervisor, uses AdvancedMD to manage billing and collection services for the Baylor Regional Transplant Institute, the largest multi-specialty transplant center in the country. According to Ramsey, although GE Healthcare (another system in use in their operation) was aware of the upcoming mandate, AdvancedMD educated them on how compliance and readiness concerning National Provider Identifiers for enterprise-class medical billing services would impact their claims flow. Originally concerned that she would have to manually update every insurance master file to comply with the new requirement, AdvancedMD completed the task automatically, saving the office not only time, but money.
“We had started updating our database, but knew that it was going to be an overwhelming task transitioning over 800 physicians,” Ramsey said. “As part of the changeover, AdvancedMD offered a free opt-in service to have all carrier files automatically updated. Because AdvancedMD prepared us effectively, things went over smoothly and we have not seen any increase in rejected claims based upon ineffective NPI compliance.”
