Founded in 1997, athenahealth came about when its founders Todd Park and Jonathan Bush realized that their birthing practice in California would be buried in paperwork if they didn’t figure out a better system quickly. Since no software existed to handle medical billing, they decided to create their own medical billing, EHR, and practice management software.
