California’s El Camino Hospital Funds Electronic Health Records System for Affiliated Physicians
Independent Physicians of El Camino Hospital (IPECH) Using eClinicalWorks to Make Practices More Efficient and Improve Patient Care
Westborough, Mass. (September 22, 2008) – eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that El Camino Hospital of Mountain View, Calif., is financially supporting an electronic health records initiative for its affiliated physicians, the Independent Physicians of El Camino Hospital (IPECH). The group selected eClinicalWorks unified electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management (PM) software for its members, which will interface with the hospital. Practices in the co-operative will also have access to eClinicalWorks Enterprise Business Optimizer (eBO) for enhanced reporting capabilities, and eClinicalWorks Electronic Health eXchange (eEHX) community health record to engage IPECH physicians and their patients in more effective medical management.
“IPECH members are affiliated with a hospital that is nationally recognized for leading technology ventures ahead of the industry norm,” said Kent Madsen, executive director of the Independent Physicians of El Camino Hospital (IPECH). “El Camino Hospital and IPECH were looking for a way to clinically connect community physicians. After looking extensively at other systems, our physician advisory council selected eClinicalWorks for the solution’s intuitive nature and workflow. Using eClinicalWorks will also help the community collect data for pay-for-performance initiatives.”
IPECH members will implement eClinicalWorks unified EMR/PM system using a Software as a Service (SaaS) model so members are able to access the system via the Internet. The system will streamline clinical processes between practice locations and promote patient safety while reducing costs. Members have also chosen to implement eBO, which uses meta-data to give the practice more flexibility through the creation of customized reports and by performing clinical and financial analysis. eEHX will create a community record that will enable physicians to have access to patients’ vital health information and allow physicians to exchange data more effectively.
“El Camino Hospital has repeatedly been recognized for its innovative technology initiatives that connect its providers,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “We are proud to have been chosen by its physician group after a rigorous selection process based on our successful track record in community settings.”
El Camino Hospital has been named one of the country’s “Most Wired” hospitals, for five consecutive years by Hospital & Health Networks magazine. The hospital has also been ranked among the top five percent of all hospitals in the nation for overall clinical performance, four years in a row (2005-2008) by HealthGrades.
