CHICAGO & OWINGS MILLS, Md (May 17, 2006) –
Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced Chesapeake Urology Associates has selected HealthMatics(R) Office to automate its clinical and financial operations across six Chesapeake Bay counties. The integrated Electronic Health Record and Practice Management System from Allscripts A4 Health Systems subsidiary, will enable the clinical and administrative sides of the practice to work hand-in-hand for better communication and improved accuracy.
Chesapeake Urology Associates, the largest urology practice in Maryland, recently merged with two other Maryland urology groups, adding 24 physicians for a total of 38. Given its rapid expansion, the practice required an electronic system to connect and leverage efficiencies across its 22 locations. Allscripts HealthMatics Office is built on a single intelligent platform and features robust clinical tools such as health maintenance, decision support, medical necessity checking and electronic prescribing.
“It is very challenging for physician groups to lower their overhead costs and increase reimbursement, but the combined Electronic Health Record and practice management system will accomplish both goals while also enhancing patient care,” said Sanford Siegel, MD, president and Chief Executive Officer of Chesapeake Urology Associates. “The Allscripts EHR, which we have used for two years, has already made a critical contribution to the success of our practice and, as we expand, the combination of the two systems will provide improved service for the more than 100,000 patients we see each year.”
Prior to the merger, Chesapeake’s original 14 physicians used HealthMatics for their medical records but not the other component of Office — Allscripts Ntierprise(R) Practice Management System. Chief Operations Officer Rosemary Law said the results they experienced using HealthMatics gave them the confidence to expand it to all of the locations, and add Ntierprise practice management components.
“The Electronic Health Record has been a huge process improvement for office workflow and for patient care,” said Law. “With the efficiencies from the system, we’ve been able to achieve measurable reductions in overhead costs such as medical records staff, transcription and postage, and most importantly to more accurately code for the services provided. We are really looking forward to the integration of the Electronic Health Record with Ntierprise and our continuing partnership with Allscripts.”
Law said Chesapeake Urology Associates selected the Allscripts solution because it was the most user friendly of the many systems they examined. In addition, she commented that the company’s customer support for HealthMatics has been “outstanding.”
“The best endorsement of our product comes not when a practice first purchases the software, but rather when they expand with us given measurable increases in quality, cost reductions and satisfaction with our responsiveness to their needs,” said Allscripts Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman. “We will continue to support our HealthMatics solutions so that physicians at first-class specialty providers like Chesapeake Urology will have the tools they need to deliver higher quality and more cost effective care to their patients. We’re especially proud to be associated with Chesapeake Urology.”
