CHICAGO and SAN DIEGO (February 13, 2007) –
Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, announced today that Sharp Community Medical Group (SCMG) will deploy the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record and Practice Management solution to automate and connect clinical and administrative processes for 300 of its physician members.

SCMG is an Independent Practice Association (IPA) of more than 700 primary care and specialty physicians in private practices across San Diego County. Physicians in the SCMG network serve more than 165,000 managed care patients. The IPA is affiliated with Sharp HealthCare, a not-for-profit integrated healthcare delivery system that includes four acute care hospitals, three specialty hospitals and two other medical groups that have implemented the TouchWorks Electronic Health Record. SCMG selected Allscripts based on its track record of success at two other Sharp HealthCare medical groups, Sharp Rees-Stealy and Sharp Mission Park, and its experience with other IPAs.
“Allscripts was clearly the safe choice and the best choice, because it provided our physicians and their support staff the convenience, safety and efficiency of the latest information technology breakthroughs,” said Elizabeth Curtis, Chief Executive Officer of SCMG. “They have proven to be a great partner for Sharp’s other medical groups, and we’re confident they’ll deliver the same high level of support and attention to our physicians.”
TouchWorks (www.allscripts.com/touchworks) will enable SCMG’s physicians to instantly access patient information when and where they need it – in their practices, at the hospital or while on-call at home. The web-based solution speeds and automates everyday clinical tasks such as prescribing and refilling medications, ordering and viewing tests, and documenting care. Additionally, TouchWorks combines sophisticated scheduling and financial management tools in a single package and incorporates advanced functionality such as rule-based appointment scheduling, multi-resource and recurring appointment features, referral and eligibility indicators, and appointment and claims management. The combined EHR-PM solution is built on a single intelligent platform with Microsoft SQL Server technology to meet the clinical and administrative needs of medical groups across the country.
“Our physicians are dedicated to delivering the best possible patient care as efficiently as possible, and Allscripts has proven they can deliver the tools to help physicians do just that,” said Christopher McGlone, Chief Operating Officer of SCMG. “We’re excited to be able to offer this integrated solution to our physicians, many of them in smaller practices who may feel they can’t afford a full Electronic Health Record but who want the benefits of patient safety, efficiency and connectivity to the entire Sharp network of physicians.”
Allscripts Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman commented, “We are proud to have been selected by yet another affiliated medical group of Sharp HealthCare, known across the country for their commitment to using information technology to improve healthcare. Sharp Community Medical Group joins a growing list of IPAs that are rolling out our Electronic Health Record and Practice Management solution to help their physicians deliver higher quality care more cost effectively.”
