Auto Paging and Remote Access Features Connect Caregivers Inside and Outside the Hospital to Critical Information

CHICAGO, Ill. and TEANECK, N.J., (April 12, 2007) –

Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that Holy Name Hospital has selected the HealthMatics(R) ED Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) to automate operations and improve access to patient information for its more than 42,000 annual Emergency Department visits.

Holy Name is a comprehensive 361-bed acute care medical center that has been rated among the nation’s top five percent of hospitals for three years straight by HealthGrades. It is the first hospital in the nation to receive three JD Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Awards, for inpatient, outpatient and emergency service excellence. HealthMatics ED (http://www.allscripts.com/edis) will streamline processes for the hospital’s entire Emergency Department, including patient tracking and triage, nurse and physician charting, reporting and disposition.

“Allscripts will support Holy Name’s long-term goal of enhancing patient safety and satisfaction,” said Richard Schwab, M.D., FACEP, Medical Director of Holy Name’s Emergency Department, where physicians had been using a cumbersome dictation system to document patient visits. “HealthMatics ED provides the best of both worlds with very fine documentation, excellent patient tracking, and most important of all, excellent support from a company with many live implementations.”

To enhance patient safety, HealthMatics ED connects caregivers inside and outside the hospital to critical information. Holy Name will take advantage of the solution’s auto paging functionality, which automatically alerts caregivers to significant clinical events such as returned abnormal lab results. Other system features include remote chart access for community caregivers and hospital staff, so they can securely access an ED patient’s chart via the hospital’s Web HIS physician portal. Physicians outside the hospital can then see what medications and treatments their patients received in the Emergency Department.

Holy Name selected Allscripts after evaluating EDIS vendors for more than four years. The hospital chose HealthMatics not only for its industry-leading connectivity but for its comprehensive functionality, ease of customization, and proven success at the nation’s leading hospitals, where the Allscripts solution handles millions of Emergency Department visits each year.

“We scrutinized our selection and Allscripts became our top choice because it not only has more successful implementations than any other company but HealthMatics ED is so easy to customize,” said Donna Stringer, Clinical Coordinator of Holy Name’s Emergency Department, which is in the midst of a $25 million expansion. “Our doctors spent years customizing our old patient discharge system to fit their workflow, and HealthMatics was the only EDIS we found that would very easily transfer those processes and let us further customize the system on our own.”

Holy Name will connect HealthMatics ED with its existing inpatient health information system, enabling full interoperability of all clinical and financial information across the hospital.

“The Emergency Department is mission critical and caregivers inside and outside the ED need instant access to the right information to provide safe, efficient care,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “We’re proud that Holy Name Hospital has chosen Allscripts to provide patients the best possible care.”
