CHICAGO and BUTLER, Pa. (July 31, 2007) –

Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that Butler Health System (BHS) has selected Allscripts as their provider of an Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) for Butler Memorial Hospital as well as an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for their physician practices.

Butler Health System is a regional network of healthcare delivery services centered on Butler Hospital, a 234-bed acute care facility located about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh. By connecting Butler Hospital’s Emergency Department with physicians on staff at BHS — beginning with the purchase of 60 licenses for the Allscripts EHR — the agreement marks a major step in the health system’s communitywide initiative to electronically link hospital services, physicians and patients for enhanced care.

“Thanks to Allscripts, our physicians in the Emergency Department and in practices outside the hospital will have instant access to the same patient information, which means patients will receive higher-quality, safer care,” said BHS President and CEO Ken DeFurio. “This goes a long way towards fulfilling our promise of a new health care system that will include a new inpatient tower, multiple outpatient delivery sites and an information system that will tie it all together with physicians and their offices.”

The Allscripts EDIS electronically streamlines processes for the entire Emergency Department, including tracking, triage, nurse and physician charting, disposition and reporting. Connectivity to the EHR means that Emergency Department physicians will have immediate access to many patients’ medical histories and medication lists — information that has historically been provided by patients. The solution also will exchange information with BHS’s existing Meditech inpatient information system for a seamless handoff of clinical information when patients are admitted to the hospital from the Emergency Department. The Electronic Health Record solution from Allscripts will provide BHS’s physicians immediate access to patient information when and where they need it — in their offices, while visiting patients in the hospital, or from home while working on-call. The Allscripts solution automates and improves the safety of everyday clinical tasks, including prescribing and refilling medications, ordering and reviewing tests, and documenting patient care.

“The ED solution and the Electronic Health Record will help physicians and other providers treat patients more effectively by improving the comprehensiveness and availability of the information they use to make care decisions,” said Thomas McGill, M.D., BHS Vice President and Chief Safety Officer. “Allscripts eliminates the inefficiencies of the paper chart, and provides ‘best practice’ guidelines, automated safety alerts, health management plans and other critical information where it’s needed most, at the point of care.”

Michael Busch, Vice President and Chief Strategic Officer, indicated that BHS selected the EDIS and EHR solutions during independent vendor review processes led by physicians from the hospital and the medical group. “It was very important to us that Allscripts has a solid track record of smooth implementations in both large-scale and small settings, and has demonstrated the ability to integrate with the hospital’s inpatient information system,” Busch said.

Allscripts Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman commented, “Butler Health System is addressing one of the most common complaints physicians and patients share. When patients leave the Emergency Department, they are told to follow- up with their physician. Traditionally, physicians didn’t have the files from the ED so they had to guess at what care was delivered. By connecting information from the Emergency Department to ambulatory physician offices using the Electronic Health Record, BHS will be one step closer to their vision of a connected healthcare system that will enable their physicians to further improve the quality of patient care, reduce physician rework, and therefore lower costs. This is a vision that Allscripts shares.”
