Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that Southwestern Medical Clinic has selected Allscripts as their provider of an integrated Electronic Health Record and Practice Management solution to automate clinical and financial operations for the group’s nearly 70 healthcare providers.

Southwestern Medical Clinic is a multi-specialty group practice with 53 physicians and 13 mid-level providers caring for more than 80,000 patients in eight locations across rural Berrien County, Michigan. Founded in the 1960s, the group emphasizes the integration of medical care and Christian medical missions. Its not-for-profit foundation offers scholarships to help medical students and residents experience short term medical mission work around the world.
“At Southwestern Medical Clinic, we’re dedicated to treating all those in need to the best of our ability and with the best available resources, whether it’s through serving insured patients, reaching out to indigent and uninsured patients, or traveling overseas to the places where God calls us to serve,” said Warren C. White, Jr., FACMPE, the group’s Administrator, who also serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), a professional organization whose members manage 12,500 medical practices with more than 270,000 US physicians. “We are convinced that Allscripts will help us fulfill our mission of providing the best quality care.”
The integrated Electronic Health Record and Practice Management solution from Allscripts will link Southwestern Medical Clinic’s administrative and clinical functions, enabling the group to be more productive while improving service to patients. The Electronic Health Record provides anytime-anywhere access to patient records and automates everyday clinical tasks such as prescribing and refilling medications, ordering and reviewing tests, and managing patient care according to clinical best practices. The Practice Management solution delivers sophisticated scheduling and billing tools that improve accuracy, speed reimbursement and enhance patient relations.
“Of all the vendors that we assessed during our three-year selection process, Allscripts offers the best balance of a very solid electronic health record matched with a highly robust back-office application,” said JC Hearn, PMP, Director of Special Projects for Southwestern Medical Clinic. “We are confident that Allscripts is the best choice for us based not only on its technology but also its strong financial base and its commitment to take care of customers, which we heard over and over again from existing clients.”
Allscripts will replace Southwestern Medical Clinic’s 13-year-old practice management system and digitize the organization’s paper medical charts, which currently are sent by courier between clinics, some of which are more than 30 miles apart.
“Southwestern Medical Clinic is committed to the highest possible standards of ethical care as well as better access to care, and Allscripts is proud to help them deliver on their vision,” said Allscripts Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman. “Working together, we are providing better connectivity and better information when and where it’s needed, leading to improved patient care delivered more cost-effectively.”
