Allscripts Launches New Innovations in Live Event

Allscripts Unveils Allscripts Remote for BlackBerry and Professional EHR 9.0

LAS VEGAS (December 08, 2009) –

Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX) Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman will host a webcast today, broadcasted live from the Allscripts Executive Summit in Las Vegas, to introduce two new innovations: Allscripts Professional(TM) EHR 9.0, a breakthrough in user experience for the premier Electronic Health Record for small- and medium-sized physician groups; and Allscripts Remote(TM) for BlackBerry® smartphones, providing physicians anywhere, anytime access to their Allscripts Electronic Health Records (EHR).

Joining the Summit are leading medical groups from across the U.S., collectively representing more than 7,000 physicians.

Allscripts Remote for BlackBerry® Smartphones

Allscripts Remote lets physicians safely make critical medical decisions even when they are away from the office, delivering information on the device they keep closest – their BlackBerry® smartphone. This mobile healthcare solution delivers a direct connection to the Allscripts Professional and Enterprise(TM) Electronic Health Records.

Capabilities include quick access to real-time patient summary information; fast communication to local hospital emergency rooms; convenient ePrescribing to any pharmacy; and real-time access to all the information a physician needs to make decisions, including medical history, lab results and medications.

“Allscripts Remote for my BlackBerry makes every aspect of my work more convenient for me and safer for my patients — and it adds a degree of fun to work I need to do when I’m away from the office,” said Barbara Morris, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Community Care Physicians in Albany New York. “I can check a summary of the patient’s medical records as my phone dials their number, and it gives me clinical information and the ability to document the encounter, send a prescription if indicated, and e-fax a copy of the summary to an ER if needed–all with the push of a button. This is what physicians have been waiting for as it puts healthcare back in our hands.”

Jeff McDowell, Senior Vice President Business Marketing and Alliances, Research In Motion, commented, “Allscripts Remote on BlackBerry smartphones allows physicians to easily access patient information while out of the office, at the hospital or on call. This type of convenient, mobile access to medical information can significantly help healthcare professionals to both save time and improve patient care.”

Professional 9.0

The release of Allscripts Professional EHR 9.0 marks a dramatic rethinking of what is considered one of the strongest and most stable Electronic Health Records on the market. Professional 9.0 delivers a state-of-the-art graphical user interface (GUI), streamlining and simplifying navigation and common tasks. It also delivers new capabilities, making it easier for physicians and other providers to build patient-care teams and manage chronic diseases.

“Simply put, Professional 9.0 makes me a better doctor,” said Daniel Wujek, MD a family practice physician from Litchfield Family Practice Center in Litchfield, Ill and a participant in the Beta program for Professional 9.0. “It’s a new, friendlier face to an application that has already been extremely successful in helping us improve our efficiency and our ability to more proactively manage the care of our patients, especially those with chronic disease. When we’re sitting with a patient, we need an EHR that thinks like a physician and that’s what Allscripts has delivered with Professional 9.0.”

Since implementing the solution in 2005, Litchfield Family Practice Center has seen sharp improvements in its chronic disease management. They recently received a $14,000 bonus from Illinois Medicaid for exceeding chronic disease benchmark standards – the regular use of diabetic blood-glucose testing, breast cancer screening, pediatric developmental screening and medications for asthmatics. The practice also credits its use of Professional EHR with delivering a dramatic decline in overhead costs, improving the work-life balance of its providers, and delivering higher patient satisfaction ratings.

Professional 9.0 expands on its’ existing disease management capabilities with enhancements like a physician dashboard that highlights a patient’s care management plan, providing at-a-glance graphing of key health measures such as blood pressure and cholesterol.

A new custom “guideline builder” lets users define which clinical measures the EHR should highlight during a patient visit. For example, if a physician prefers American Diabetes Association (ADA) guidelines for diabetic patients, the application will deliver on-screen alerts whenever a patient exceeds ADA standards for blood-glucose levels, or other health measures. Professional 9.0 ships with the most common national guidelines pre-built into the application, so customization is an option, not a requirement.

These enhancements will help satisfy the as-yet-unannounced “meaningful use” requirements of the federal stimulus program for Electronic Health Record adoption approved under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) and due out in December from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“Physicians want an EHR that is intuitive, affordable, complete and connected and that is exactly what they get with Professional 9.0,” said Mr. Tullman. “The ease, convenience and functionality of Allscripts Remote creates an entirely new experience for physicians – the ability to practice medicine leveraging a BlackBerry to have the real-time information they require to deliver high-quality care.”
