Allscripts and Microsoft Team for Application Developer Program
Companies link developer communities, creating a Healthcare Open Platform Ecosystem
CHICAGO (August 16, 2012) – To encourage an open ecosystem in healthcare IT, Allscripts is working with Microsoft Corp. to expand Allscripts Application Developer Program (ADP) to enable greater innovation and interoperability for healthcare clients. Driving the collaboration is the importance of using an open development platform to facilitate innovations in healthcare delivery.
The companies are accelerating work to enable a broader spectrum of web services integration with Allscripts products, resulting in more partners and solutions integrating with — and becoming an extension of — the Allscripts platform, including offerings from Microsoft and its solution partners. By joining their developer communities, Allscripts and Microsoft can better support developers who want to create applications for both platforms.
“Health delivery organizations need a technology platform that supports innovation and is widely used, providing plenty of opportunity for new applications,” said Michael Robinson, Vice President of U.S. Health and Life Sciences at Microsoft. “We’re committed to enabling more applications that improve healthcare by working with Allscripts to leverage the power and flexibility of the Microsoft platform, especially as we prepare to launch Windows 8.”
The companies plan to increase support for a number of partner solutions and Microsoft applications such as Dynamics CRM. The companies also will work together to expand the Allscripts developer community to creat more apps to improve healthcare.
“We believe the transformation happening in healthcare requires an open approach to enable innovative advances in how our clients deliver care. Open is not just about being easy to connect with but just as importantly about innovation,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer, Allscripts. “Creating this open ecosystem is another step toward our vision of a true Connected Community of Healthcare.”
Allscripts and Microsoft have worked together for more than a decade. This week at the Allscripts Client Experience (ACE), attended by more than 4,000 Allscripts clients and partners, Allscripts demonstrated a Windows 8 Modern UI version of its mobile EHR solution, which will offer enhanced security and full health productivity offerings, but will also come in sterile device form factors once Windows 8 launches later this year.
